چکیده

Database systems have been vital for all forms of data processing for a long time. In recent years, the amount of processed data has been growing dramatically, even in small projects. Nevertheless, database management systems tend to be static in terms of size and performance, which makes scaling a difficult and expensive task. This is especially an acute problem in dynamic environments like grid systems. Based on the C-JDBC project, we developed a cluster database that supports automatic scaling in the number of nodes used. To ensure good load balancing, we distribute the tablespace according to a statistical analysis of the query history. In this paper we will focus on the allocation

Applying AI technology and rough set theory for mining association rules to support crime management and fire-fighting resourc

The missions for the police and fire fighters are to protect for public safety and to fight and prevent from fires, respectively. In this dynamic environment, however, there are many potential dangers and uncertain factors that can’t be predicted. In order to improve the total performance, some rules extracted from criminal and fire-fighting records are needed. The purpose of this paper is to m...

Towards Dynamic Green-Sizing for Database Servers

This paper presents two techniques for reducing the power consumed by database servers. Both techniques are intended primarily for transactional workloads on servers with memory-resident databases. The first technique is databasemanaged dynamic processor voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS). We show that a DBMS can exploit its knowledge of the workload and performance constraints to obtain powe...

WattDB - A Journey towards Energy E ciency

Due to their narrow power spectrum between idle and full utilization [2], satisfactory energy e ciency of servers can only be reached in the peak-performance range, whereas energy e ciency obtained for lower activity levels is far from being optimal. Hence, this hardware property obviates a desired energy proportionality or minimal energy use for the entire range of system utilization. To appro...

Implementation and Evaluation of Parallel Data Mining on PC Cluster and Optimization of its Execution Environments

Personal Computer/Workstation clusters have been studied intensively in the field of parallel and distributed computing. In the viewpoint of applications, data intensive applications such as data mining and ad-hoc query processing in databases are considered very important for high performance computing, as well as conventional scientific calculations. We have built and evaluated PC cluster pil...
